Kintampo Health Research Centre operates in the four contiguous districts in the Brong Ahafo region namely, Kintampo, Nkoranza, Techiman and Wenchi; with Kintampo as the Headquarters. With the Start of the Seroconversion project, KHRC's operation area extended to the Offinso district in the Ashanti Region, precisely in Akumadan and Nkenkensu towns.
By way of a report for the year 2004, the administration of KHRC could be viewed
under the following headings:
TRANSPORT
The Centre acquired a new 2x4 pickup called
Great wall. This increased our fleet of pickups to 7. The number for our station
wagons remained at 5. There are also 3 saloon cars. The Centre purchased two
(2) motorbikes to augment our motor bike fleet to 40 motorbikes. These were
distributed to the sites as follows, Kintampo – 22, Wenchi 7, Techiman – 7,
Nkoranza- 4. These numbers of motorbikes are still inadequate to meet the full
demands of the projects. There are , however, plans to purchase some more motorbikes
the following year, when funding would have normalised.
The Centre at the end of the year had 177 bicycles for use by fieldworkers. The break down is as follows: Kintampo – 48, Wenchi – 67, Techiman – 33, Nkoranza – 29
AUCTIONING OF OLD VEHICLES
The Centre auctioned the following old pickups which were not strong enough for field work: Toyota Hilux with registration number BA 41 A and Nissan pickup BA 42 A to its staff. This reduced the number of pickups to 5. A grounded Nissan Primeira saloon car with registration number GT 346 R was also auctioned to staff. This sale also reduced the number of saloon cars to 2.
ACCOMMODATION FOR STAFF
In pursuit of getting comfortable accommodation for selected senior staff, the Centre was thus privileged to obtain support from Health Research Unit Accra for the construction of two bed room semi-detached accommodation.
