INDEPTH Network announces new Executive Director

Dr. SankohThe chair of the board of trustees of the INDEPTH Network, Dr. Seth Owusu-Agyei, hereby announces the appointment of Osman Sankoh, D.Sc. as Executive Director of the INDEPTH Network, effective October 1, 2007. Dr. Sankoh will succeed Prof. Fred Binka who steps down at the end of September.

“The board and I are pleased that Dr. Sankoh has accepted to continue to serve INDEPTH and provide leadership and direction over the coming years to advance the work of the network,” says Dr. Owusu-Agyei.

Osman became the Deputy Executive Director of the INDEPTH Network in mid 2006 after serving INDEPTH from 2002 as its Communications and External Relations Manager. He has many years of progressive experience in demographic surveillance work and networking. He joined INDEPTH from the Department of Tropical Hygiene and Public Health at the University of Heidelberg Medical School in Germany where he worked as a Biostatistician/Epidemiologist.

Dr. Sankoh is a product of the Njala University in Sierra Leone and University of Dortmund in Germany . He has many scientific publications in international peer-reviewed journals, in addition to being a novelist. His books include Hybrid Eyes – An African in Europe and Beautiful Colours. Dr. Sankoh is a native of Sierra Leone in West Africa.
